Positive Behaviour Support

Service Area

Our experienced Positive Behaviour Support Practitioners are located on the Sunshine Coast and surrounding areas. We come to you to provide Positive Behaviour Support services in your home, the community, or via telehealth.

What is Positive Behaviour Support?

Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) is recognised as the best approach for children and adults living with disability who display behaviours of concern.

PBS is a comprehensive approach to assessment, planning, and intervention that focuses on addressing a person's needs, home environment, and overall quality of life. This includes working with the individual person, family, therapists, support workers, school, and others involved in supporting the person.

The most important outcome in positive support is an improvement in a person's quality of life. We come to you in your home or via telehealth to provide this support.

How Does It Work?

Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) works to reduce or eliminate difficult behaviours of concern by working with the person and the extended support team. Behaviours of concern are actions that might not be safe for the person or other people. For example, hitting themselves or others, or breaking things.

PBS is provided both face-to-face and behind the scenes, within the stated hours in an individual's NDIS plan.

Both the individual Positive Behaviour Support Practitioner and the provider who provides the Positive Behaviour Support must be registered by the NDIS to provide this important support.

Our Approach

Positive Behaviour Support Practitioners at Clarity Pathways work closely with the individual person, family/carers, and wider support team to:

Understand Behaviours

Understand concerning behaviours in a supportive environment

Develop Support Plans

Develop a behaviour support plan which focuses on assisting the individual person, meets individual needs, and changes things for the better

Implement & Train

Put the behaviour support plan into action—teaching the person and those who support them new skills and how to do things differently, including steps to keep everyone safe

Monitor & Adjust

Work with the support team to provide ongoing support to check things are getting better over time and adjust the plan as required

Our practitioners come to you at home to discuss and understand concerns, and to develop a behaviour support plan. This includes a Functional Behavioural Assessment to inform support needs and strategies. Our practitioners may also meet with other therapists and stakeholders, where appropriate and consent has been provided.

We can also assist where a person would benefit from behaviour support that is not currently funded in their NDIS plan. This involves a comprehensive evaluation as part of a Functional Behavioural Assessment and Recommendations Report. This can be funded out of Capacity Building in an individual NDIS plan.

Funding

Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) is funded when a person demonstrates behaviours of concern that may be challenging in their own environment. For example—the behaviour might challenge those around them.

PBS funding is:

  • Under NDIS – Capacity Building – Support Category of Improved Relationships
  • For a stated number of hours for each stated Support Item
  • Specialised Behavioural Intervention Support
  • Behaviour Management Plan Including Training in Behaviour Management Strategies
  • Not flexible, meaning the funds cannot be used for any other therapy or support outside of the stated Support Item
  • Only available for NDIS registered PBS providers

Dietetics Services

Service Area

Our Accredited Practising Dietitian is located on the Sunshine Coast and surrounding areas. We come to you to provide Dietetics services in your home, the community, or via telehealth.

What are Dietetics Services?

Dietetics is the science and practice of nutrition and food. At Clarity Pathways, our dietetics services go beyond just "what to eat." We take a compassionate, behaviour-informed approach that recognises food is deeply personal, cultural, sensory, and emotional.

For many people we work with, food and mealtimes can be a source of stress, anxiety, or conflict. We understand that eating challenges—whether it's food selectivity, mealtime distress, sensory sensitivities, or complex nutritional needs—are not simply about "being picky" or "not trying hard enough."

Our dietitian works collaboratively with you to understand the underlying reasons behind eating behaviours, and develops practical, respectful strategies that support both nutrition and wellbeing—without pressure, shame, or rigid rules.

How Does It Work?

Dietetics services at Clarity Pathways work by combining nutritional science with an understanding of behaviour. We recognise that eating is not just about food—it's about safety, sensory experiences, relationships, and past experiences.

We work with individuals, families, and support teams to develop achievable nutrition goals that respect the person's autonomy, preferences, and nervous system capacity. This might include expanding food variety, managing nutritional adequacy, supporting mealtime routines, or addressing specific health conditions.

Services can be provided face-to-face in your home or via telehealth, depending on what works best for you.

Our Approach

Our Dietitian at Clarity Pathways works closely with the individual person, family/carers, and wider support team to:

Assess & Understand

Understand eating patterns, nutritional needs, sensory preferences, and the meaning behind food-related behaviours

Create Personalised Plans

Develop compassionate, achievable nutrition plans that honour individual preferences, cultural needs, and health goals

Support & Educate

Provide practical strategies, education, and support to families and carers navigating mealtime challenges

Monitor Progress

Review progress regularly, adjust plans as needed, and celebrate small wins along the way

Our dietitian comes to you at home to discuss concerns, assess nutritional needs, and develop a personalised nutrition plan. This may include nutritional assessments, meal planning support, sensory food exploration strategies, and ongoing monitoring. We may also collaborate with other therapists and health professionals, where appropriate and consent has been provided.

Funding

Dietetics services can be funded through your NDIS plan under Capacity Building supports, specifically for therapeutic support needs related to nutrition, eating, and mealtime challenges.

Dietetics funding is typically:

  • Under NDIS – Capacity Building – Improved Health and Wellbeing
  • Available for NDIS participants with nutrition-related goals in their plan
  • Can also be self-funded or accessed through private health insurance with dietetics cover

Not sure if you have dietetics funding in your plan? We can help you understand your NDIS plan and explore options for accessing dietetics support. Get in touch for a no-obligation chat.
